And that, my friends is the sentiment I have towards my philosophy of the environment class at times... I dunno, the prof is a über-cool guy, like in terms of how he thinks, and all the things he's done... But when I'm in his class, sometimes I feel like I'm just listening to him spew out one big word after another. Perhaps it's simply me being stupid or something, but sometimes his words just flow RIGHT past me. and i'm just like.... "what???". But it's not me being stupid, then maybe he's being prententious and show-off-ish by confusing us with mumbo-jumbo. Man, it sounds like i'm having the worst time ever, but I'm really not... I think it's actually one of my most interesting classes right now, for sure! He's one of those people who just get you thinking about stuff... And at the beginning of the class, it was so startling, because all of what he had to say, both in class, and in the articles he chose to focus on in class was simply reaffirming another voice that has resonated deep within me for a while. The voice of Ismael. I think that's partly why I like the class so much, because it sorta takes so many aspects of the book, and builds on it.
Other than that, my day was mostly uneventful. I woke up barely on time for my botany class, and I was all proud of myself, and what happens? I had forgotten that the prof had cancelled class today. Argh... But I made the best use to time for it, so it all worked out. Then after philosophy, katie and I headed back to south residence cafeterias for some nostalgia. Well we needed to pay our phone bill, she wanted perogies, and i don't mind eating there! Going back really made me realize how I couldn't go back to res food 7 days a week for 8 months.
And then there was biochem lab today... We played with phenol, methylene chloride which are carcinogens, and Aurin tricarboxylic acid, a known mutagen. So basically, if it gets on you, it messes with the DNA for whatever cells it comes into contact with (ARGH!!!), Fun stuff, eh? And I spilt the phenol too! The redeeming part of the lab was that I got to play with liquid nitrogen... I've never really seen it much before, so it was really cool seeing it boil when you put stuff into it... I put a glove filled with water in it... It was fun... Ahh, the the joys and tribulations of a science student... *sigh*
And now I'm here blogging away, and my philosophy paper due thursday isn't getting any more done, and my pliant laundry awaits my attention.
