Really, I should update more...
i keep forgetting to write in my blog... silly silly me.. i just need to keep writing things as they happen instead of slamming people with 5 pages of text every 2 weeks... heh. Anyways, I'm still alive... i survived the earthquake in tokyo, as you can probably now tell. And japan was really fun... It was fun seeing my sister, and seeing all the crazy things that only japan offers... Anyways, I've been back in Van for a few days now, just getting settled back It's weird, because in terms of culture shock, both Japan and Costa Rica affected me, in varying degrees, but it almost seems as if they sort of neutralized each other... Because after Costa Rica, I was wholly unaccustomed to life in Canada... in terms of how it is not very sustainable and then, BAM, I was in Japan, with wooden chopsticks galore, and individual packing for almost anything you can contrive. It was like double-minus-unsustainable, but efficient to the utmost. Scary. I think in my mind, my expectations of a society that I live in should be like have been equalized... An equation to illustrate my meaning: Costa Rica society + Japanese Society = ~ North American Society. This is what I felt, at least. Anyways, some quick updates on my life in point form, for easy reading:
I have some other things, which wouldn't fit in so well in succinct dotted form, unfortunately... I went for dinner last night at my grandma's... It was nice, just seeing them all... but the amazing moment of the night was when my cousin put in a video CD of some REALLY old home videos of our family that he ripped from some old camcorders he had. I think it was my great-grandmother's big 60th birthday, and it was a typical crazy chinese gathering, which funky chinese instruments playing in the background, and the sound of mahjong tiles being clattered around. It was 1986, when my aunt's had giant permed fros, and when I was the mere age of 3. It was weird seeing myself 17 years before, in my red shirt with striped with black, and yellow suspenders. Good times. Anyways, it was just an amazing time, seeing the joy in my relative's faces as they watched themselves in the past. It was especially nice seeing the eyes of my grandma light up, at the recognition of her old friends that are probably living in Hong Kong, most likely dispersed all over. I also took some pictures with my cousins, cuz we're silly kids... I'll see if I ever get around to posting them online! Heh.
